Leaked dummy images give a clearer view of Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone design

Leaked dummy units reveal Apple’s first foldable iPhone design

Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 is coming soon. A new set of dummy unit mockups has surfaced, giving the clearest early look at Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The images were shared by leaker Sonny Dickson and point to a design built around several long-rumored features. These mockups come from physical models rather than official material, so details may still shift before launch.

The device appears to use a 7.8-inch inner display when opened. That screen size sits close to an iPad mini, which suggests a tablet-like experience in the unfolded state. The front camera sits on the top left side of the inner display. When closed, the phone shifts into a passport-style shape that looks shorter and wider than a standard iPhone.

The outer display measures around 5.5 inches. It sits on the cover side for quick use without unfolding the device. The folded structure changes the overall shape quite a bit, giving it a more compact but thicker look compared to regular slab phones. On the back, the design shows a dual-camera setup placed in a simple arrangement.

Face ID does not appear in this version of the design. Instead, Touch ID is placed inside the power button. This change likely comes from space limits inside a foldable frame, where front sensors are harder to fit without affecting the screen structure.

Earlier reports from Bloomberg mentioned black and white color options. The new leak suggests Apple may reduce that further and launch only in white at first. That would match Apple’s earlier approach with first-generation products, where color choices stayed limited in early releases.

Apple has followed a similar path before. The original iPhone and early iPad models came in fewer colors at launch, with more options added later. The iPhone X also arrived in a small color range in 2017. Even newer models like the iPhone 17 Pro show changes in color variety compared to earlier generations.
